Training and Education

One of the most compelling aspects of lab-grown diamonds is constant advancement in the sector. The range, variety, and appeal of grown diamonds coming to market today will continue to become more exciting with time.

IGDA is committed to providing current and comprehensive education about lab-grown diamonds. Unlike the traditional 4Cs or mined gemstones, advancements within the lab-grown industry mean new developments will regularly be introduced.

Lab Grown Diamond eLearning

To ensure the most recent, relevant knowledge reaches the public, IGDA has partnered with the International Gemological Institute (IGI) the world leader in the lab grown diamond sector. Their eLearning course on lab-grown diamonds provides critical information IGDA believes any jewelry professional or enthusiast should know about classification, technical growth, treatments, and separation of marketing facts from fictions.

IGI’s popular eLearning courses, updated with the latest information, usually take less than 45 minutes to complete. They are also uniquely interactive; learners make choices along the way, verifying material is understood. When the final quiz is passed with a score of 80% or higher a PDF summary of all course content, with supplemental information, is provided.

How to Protect Your Purchase

Screening Services

For professionals buying over the counter, and consumers purchasing estate, consignment or other pre-owned jewelry, IGI offers affordable screening services for loose gemstones and finished jewelry. Without disassembling valuable pieces, IGI uses state of the art technologies to determine naturally mined, laboratory grown, or simulant origin. Have total confidence in what you are selling or buying with proof of authentic lab grown or natural origin from IGI.

Grading Reports and Appraisals

IGI offers independent grading reports for loose gemstones and finished jewelry, as well as jewelry appraisals, appraisal-updates, and identification reports. An IGI Jewelry Appraisal Report identifies and fully describes the jewelry article, with maximum retail replacement value calculated for insurance purposes. IGI appraisers are accredited by the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and continue their education by attending courses and conferences each year.

Registration & Recovery Services

Consumers can now register jewelry in IGI's database to ensure the best chance of recovery if damaged, lost, or stolen. After your registration is activated, you can call IGI’s toll-free number to report loss, theft, or damage covered by insurance. If a piece is destroyed, IGI will provide a printed report for your insurance company, describing the article of jewelry in detail, with a representative photograph. If the registered item was appraised by IGI, a maximum retail replacement value for insurance purposes will be included.
